The Fredericton Shambhala Center provides opportunities for people from all walks of life to embark on a journey of self-discovery and to contribute to a sane and compassionate society. The Centre offers a variety of programs and classes on meditation, Buddhism, Shambhala and contemplative disciplines, made possible through the financial support of its members. For those who have connected with the teachings or the practice at the Centre, there is an opportunity to deepen your commitment and to help give opportunities to others by becoming a member.
As members of Shambhala:
We are willing to undertake regular mindfulness-awareness practice. This is the best way for all of us to support our Shambhala community, our world, and ourselves. Our weekly Wednesday evening practices and monthly Sunday morning sittings provide regular opportunities for group practice, study and discussion. As a support for individual practice, members are encouraged to establish an ongoing relationship with a meditation instructor.
We are willing to donate our time to various tasks the Shambhala community needs accomplished, based on our abilities and time availability. Providing service to the Centre becomes a part of our practice. Volunteer opportunities include helping with the upkeep and organizing of the centre, and staffing programs.
We are willing to give regular financial support to our Shambhala community, based on our income and other financial obligations. If you want to be a member, you are welcome to donate whatever monthly amount you can afford. It goes without saying that members with greater resources can subsidize members with fewer, which is excellent and appropriate. Financially supporting the Centre is practicing generosity, making it possible for more people to practice meditation and enjoy our programs and community. Shambhala is part of the Vajradhatu Buddhist Church of Canada and all financial contributions are income tax deductible.
While membership is primarily an expression of appreciation, it brings several privileges. These include:
- Eligibility to participate in the Centre’s governance
- Access to resources in the members areas on the Centre's website and Shambhala's main website
- Eligibility to apply to attend advanced training programs
If you would like to become a member, please contact Center Director David Seabrook or Treasurer Diane McKinnon.
