Join us on January 4th as we mindfully begin the new year with a new social/book club that will be meeting from 7pm-9pm weekly on Thursday nights going forward. We will start the evenings with twenty minutes of sitting meditation followed with tea and discussion of the chosen book. Each week we will be covering a single chapter of the book making this a low pressure group activity.

Our first book this year will be Mindfulness In Plain English by Bhante Gunaratana. On January 4th we will be discussing the first chapter (pages 1-11).

Originally published in 1994, Mindfulness in Plain English is one of the best selling books on mindfulness and meditation. Born in Sri Lanka, author Bhante Gunaratana is a Theravadan Buddhist monk and abbot of the Bhavana Society in West Virginia. In Mindfulness In Plain English Bhante takes readers step by step through the potential benefits, as well as the myths, and realities of mindfulness and meditation practice using simple language. The book is an excellent introduction to mindfulness and meditation for those just starting a practice while also being of great potential benefit to anybody wanting to refresh their existing practice with a return to basics.
